CRACK-BRAINED THEORY
Had an interesting idea while walking the dogs round the neolithic burial mound this morning.
Accepting the Big Bang theory to be true - maybe it can be linked up with Deism - the notion that God set the universe in motion, then walked away and left it to its own devices.
What if the Big Bang was a sort of cataclysmic suicide note?
What if God, tired of it all, (whatever 'it all' was) decided to bring the universe into existence and then - at the exact same moment - cause himself to cease to exist?
Would explain the apparent aimlessness of stuff.
Maybe in the 'seeds' of the universe he included the possibility, even probability, of life. Maybe He hoped, or even knew, that sometime, billions of years later, his farewell note would finally be deciphered?
Don't suppose this theory appeals much to Catholics. Does seem unlikely. But then, what doesn't?

What if God was only checking in to see if the work He had put in place was still functioning correctly - again (after the previous again), Post Big Bang and Pre-Big Crunch? Or vice versa? This brain has a few difficulties there. They say that if the human brain was simple enough to understand we would be too simple to understand it. I love this. It makes my psychology students say: "huh?".
Maybe that is what Eternity really means. Maybe Nietzsche was right: certainly, contemporarywise, it all seems to hinge on whether or not "dark matter exists" and if it does, and if the laws of physics don't change (and why would they?) the the Eternal Recurrence is a possibility. Zarathustra Rules, OK!

Well, I'm a faithful reader as well -mostly in agreement with what you're saying, but mainly because your writing gives my tired old synapses a workout thinking about the deepness and bigness of it all. Staving off the Alzheimers, basically.

What came to be known as the "The Big Bang Theory" was originally proposed by Msgr. Georges Le Maître, professor of physics and astronomy at the Catholic University of Louvain.

I should think that that theory should go down well with the Catholics, if you believe that Jesus died for our sins, why not that God died for our lives?
Maybe I should start a new religion. Make a fortune!
